REGULAR MEETING

COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING ROOM

Coffee County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 9:30 o’clock A.M. with the following present: Chairman Jimmy Kitchens, Commissioners Earl Brice, Frank Jackson, Charles H. Deen and Tom Rice, County Attorney Tony Rowell, County Administrator Wesley Vickers and County Clerk Jo Ann Metts.

Chairman Kitchens called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner Rice welcomed Superior Court Judge Dwayne Gillis who gave the invocation. Everyone participated in the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.

Chairman Kitchens announced Commissioners were having a work session today at 10:30 o’clock A. M. to discuss possible changes in the zoning ordinance.

Sgt. Kevin Rexroat explained the “Kids Public Safety Fun Day” to be held this Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Georgia State Patrol Post. This will include food and fun with the children to learn of the resources available through public safety. This event will be held from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 o’clock P.M.

Commissioner Rice made a motion to approve the minutes with one change to correct the last name of Tim Thomason (pre-meeting work session minutes dated May 4, 2011) and this was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed,

Commissioner Jackson made a motion to approve the agenda and this was seconded by Commissioner Deen. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.

No one was present from the Red Cross to give the presentation.

County Attorney Rowell stated he had discussed the liability issues in reference to the Nutrition Service Contract with Southern Georgia Regional Commission and they were in the process of clarifying these issues in the contract. They have adequate insurance and the contract is ready to sign with these revisions in the contract. Commissioner Jackson made a motion to approve this contract with the revisions and this was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.

County Administrator Vickers stated Commissioners needed to make appointments to the Douglas-Coffee County Planning & Zoning Commission to replace Mr. Wayne Roberts who resigned and to re-appoint Ms. Linda Christian whose term will expire on June 30, 2011. Commissioner Rice made a motion to appoint Mr. Tim Thomason for a term beginning May 16, 2011, and expiring on June 30, 2013, and to re-appoint Ms. Linda Christian for a term beginning June 30, 2011, and expiring June 30, 2015. This was seconded by Commissioner Deen. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.

Commissioner Jackson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:45 o’clock A. M. and this was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
