COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING ROOM
Coffee County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 9:30 o’clock A.M. with the following present: Chairman Jimmy Kitchens, Commissioners Earl Brice, Frank Jackson, Charles H. Deen and Tom Rice, County Attorney Tony Rowell, County Administrator Wesley Vickers and County Clerk Jo Ann Metts.
Chairman Kitchens called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner Rice gave the invocation. Everyone participated in the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
Chairman Kitchens announced the 11th District ACCG meeting was scheduled for Friday, June 24, 2011, from 9:30 o’clock A.M until 1:00 o’clock P.M. at Gopher Plantation in Millwood, Atkinson County, Georgia and stated everyone should let County Clerk know if they would be attending this meeting.
Commissioner Deen made a motion to approve the minutes of the pre-meeting work session, regular meeting and work session held on May 16, 2011, and this was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
Commissioner Jackson made a motion to approve the agenda and this was seconded by Commissioner Rice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
County Administrator Vickers stated Commissioners needed to approve a joint resolution to request further funding for the Georgia Forestry Commission, which includes the counties of Atkinson, Bacon, Coffee, Pierce and Ware. Copy of Resolution attached. Chairman Kitchens stated this resolution was a result of the recent wild fires in the various counties and hoped this would help restore the forestry commission positions in the local counties. The forestry office in Coffee County is in the process of hiring two positions. Commissioner Rice made a motion to approve this resolution and this was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
Ms. Shanda Henderson presented an award to Sheriff Jerry Pope and his Department for providing security at the annual Relay For Life American Cancer Society events.
County Attorney Rowell stated the moratorium for the establishment or development of any new manufactured home park or community as well as moratorium on the enlargement of any existing manufactured home park or community had been on the agenda and this was discussed in the pre-meeting work session. Commissioner Brice made a motion to continue the moratorium until August 15, 2011, and this was seconded by Commissioner Deen. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
County Administrator Vickers went over the adjustments to the SPLOST III budget reducing the road budget by $25,000.00 and increasing the county building improvements budget by $25,000.00. The following roads will be added to the resurfacing list: Weeks Road, Tyson Road, Clyde Kirkland Road, Broxton-West Green Road, Ambrose Road, Sinkhole Road, Salem Church Road, Bud Hutchinson Road and Bay Meadows West. This would be 8.0 miles of resurfacing. Timber Land Trail was added to the list to provide for construction and paving of 0.5 miles. The total budget for these projects is $914.400.00 with an estimate of $600,000.00 being paid by DOT and $314,400.00 being paid from SPLOST III funds. Commissioner Brice made a motion to approve the amendment to this SPLOST III budget and adding the additional roads to the SPLOST III priority list and this was seconded by Commissioner Rice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
Commissioner Brice made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:40 o’clock A.M. and this was seconded by Commissioner Deen. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
