REGULAR MEETING

COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING ROOM

 

 

Coffee County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, April 14, 2011 at 9:30 o’clock A.M. with the following present: Chairman Jimmy Kitchens, Commissioners Earl Brice, Frank Jackson, Charles H. Deen and Tom Rice, County Attorney Tony Rowell, and Deputy County Clerk Princess Porter. Chairman Kitchens called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

 

Commissioner Jackson introduced Mr. Arnold Parsons, a Major in the Green Beret who gave the invocation. Everyone participated in the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.

 

Chairman Kitchens announced the next Commissioners meeting would be rescheduled for Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 8:30 o’clock A.M. for work session and at 9:30 o’clock A.M. for the regular meeting.

 

Commissioner Jackson made a motion to approve the minutes of the pre-meeting work session and regular meetings held on April 4, 2011. This was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.

 

Commissioner Deen made a motion to approve the agenda and this was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.

 

County Attorney Rowell explained that the Donate a Life organization, an organization that supports and encourages organ donation, presented a proclamation to the Board for approval. County Attorney Rowell read the Proclamation proclaiming April National Donate a Life Month. Commissioner Rice made a motion to approve the Proclamation and it was seconded by Commissioner Brice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.

 

Jail Administrator Tony Henderson explained that Fulton County Sheriff department has made a proposal for Coffee County to house inmates in the County Jail. Fulton County agrees to house 50 inmates and maintain all transportation for the inmates. Fulton County has agreed to pay additional cost if Coffee County has to transport inmates for emergency services.  Coffee County will provide all in house medical services for the inmates and any outside medical services will be reimbursed by Fulton County. Fulton County has agreed to pay $34.00 per day per inmate housed in the County Jail. Mr. Henderson stated that provision has been included in the agreement that allows 30 days for either party to terminate the agreement. Chairman Kitchens thanked Sheriff Pope and Tony Henderson for their work on acquiring additional inmates and revenue to help offset the expenses to operate the County Jail and the tax burden for the Citizens of the County. County Attorney Rowell stated that Fulton County have preliminary agreed to the terms of the agreement. Commissioner Brice made a motion to approve the intergovernmental agreement with Fulton County which also authorizes the Chairman to execute the agreement provided there are no material changes to the terms of the agreement that will affect how the County house or get paid for the inmates and this was seconded by Commissioner Deen. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.

 

Commissioner Brice made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:01 A.M. and this was seconded by Commissioner Rice. All Commissioners unanimously agreed.
